PRESCRIBE NATURE (SHORT COURSE)

Dates: Friday 16th January until Friday 13th March 2026. (No session on Friday 20th February, due to half term break)
Duration: 8 weeks
Time: 10am – 2pm
Funding/Fees: This course is fully funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund 
Entry requirements: Participants are aged 16 and over, living in Midlothian, out of education or employment and can provide a National Insurance Number
Location: Newbattle Abbey College Woodland Campus
Includes: Lunch, refreshments, waterproof clothing and boots

COURSE OVERVIEW

Prescribe Nature is an 8-week outdoor wellbeing programme for adults who would benefit from time in nature to improve mental health, reduce social isolation and build confidence. Delivered in the peaceful woodlands at Newbattle Abbey College, this fully funded course offers a mix of therapeutic outdoor activities and the chance to gain a recognised award.

Whether you are looking to reconnect with nature, improve your wellbeing or take a first step towards learning or employment, this course offers a calming, supportive and empowering experience.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

This course is ideal for adults who would benefit from:

  • Improved mental health and wellbeing
  • Social connection in a relaxed, outdoor setting
  • Re-engaging with learning in a low-pressure environment
  • Developing confidence and motivation for future opportunities
  • No previous experience is needed. The course is particularly suited to those who have been away from learning or work and are looking for a fresh start in a supportive space.

WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?

You will attend weekly sessions every Friday from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm at Newbattle Abbey College. The first session on Friday 16th January is a relaxed taster day to get to know the group and the woodland space. Please note there is no session on Friday 20th February.

All sessions take place outdoors in our woodland campus. Lunch, refreshments, waterproofs and boots are provided so you can participate comfortably in all weathers.
