At Newbattle Abbey College, we are committed to helping our students access the financial support they need to succeed.

We understand that funding is an important part of your learning journey, whether you are studying full-time, returning to education or exploring a new path.

Education Maintenance Allowance EMA

Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)

An Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is available for eligible students aged 16 to 19 who are taking part in non-advanced learning. EMA provides financial support to help young people stay in education.

EMA is also available for students who are home-educated or those involved in an Activity Agreement.

Funding for Higher Education

(First year of the Associate Degree Programme / HNC)

Students enrolling on our HNC, as part of our Associate Degree Programme with Queen Margaret University, may be eligible for support through the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS)

  • Students ordinarily resident in Scotland have their tuition fees paid by SAAS.
  • You must apply to SAAS for payment of your tuition fees and any additional financial support such as a student loan or bursary.
  • Your entitlement to tuition fees and bursary support may be affected if you have previously undertaken degree-level studies.
  • We recommend applying to SAAS as early as possible to ensure your funding is in place before your course begins.
