Student Funding
At Newbattle Abbey College, we are committed to helping our students access the financial support they need to succeed.
We understand that funding is an important part of your learning journey, whether you are studying full-time, returning to education or exploring a new path.
Our funding options are designed to help cover tuition fees, living expenses and additional costs related to your studies.
Further Education Bursary
A bursary is a financial award given at the discretion of the college to help students remain in education beyond their statutory school leaving date. An award can include allowances to cover your maintenance, travel costs and study expenses such as books, equipment or specialist clothing.
Bursary Funding
Bursary funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Applying for a bursary does not automatically guarantee funding, so we encourage you to apply as early as possible. Once you are accepted onto an eligible course, we will contact you with details of how to apply for a bursary.
Further Education Bursary
Bursaries are available for eligible full-time students aged 18 and over.
Studying the following courses:
- Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP)
- NC Social Sciences
- Rural Skills
Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)
An Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is available for eligible students aged 16 to 19 who are taking part in non-advanced learning. EMA provides financial support to help young people stay in education.
EMA is also available for students who are home-educated or those involved in an Activity Agreement.
Funding for Higher Education
(First year of the Associate Degree Programme / HNC)
Students enrolling on our HNC, as part of our Associate Degree Programme with Queen Margaret University, may be eligible for support through the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS)
- Students ordinarily resident in Scotland have their tuition fees paid by SAAS.
- You must apply to SAAS for payment of your tuition fees and any additional financial support such as a student loan or bursary.
- Your entitlement to tuition fees and bursary support may be affected if you have previously undertaken degree-level studies.
- We recommend applying to SAAS as early as possible to ensure your funding is in place before your course begins.
