Student Wellbeing and Support
The Student Wellbeing and Support Team at Newbattle Abbey College is here to support you throughout your academic journey with us.
We offer an inclusive service to all of our students, supporting students who disclose a disability or additional support need or those who need help with their personal wellbeing. We are also here to help you with your studies providing one-to-one and small group academic support sessions and guidance.

Mental Health and Wellbeing support
Our team are Mental Health First Aid Trained and able to speak to you about your concerns. We will help you to identify what may be impacting your wellbeing and support you to address the cause. We offer self-management approaches for low level stress and anxiety and offer support and guidance on Mental Health Resources, referring for further Mental Health Support where appropriate.
Financial support
We offer advice and guidance on SFC Bursary Funding, SAAS Funding and Discretionary Funding.
Support for Care Experienced Students
We are proud Corporate Parents at Newbattle Abbey College and offer continued support to our care experienced students throughout their journey with us. We can help you with your initial course application and you will be provided a key contact person throughout your studies. Your key contact will communicate with you regularly and is available for support and guidance whenever needed.
Course Information & Advice on Next Steps
We help our students to look at what options are available for them after they have completed their course with us and support students to consider their progression from Newbattle, whether that be into employment, or further study at college or university.
Support for students with Caring Responsibilities
If you have caring responsibilities, we will work with you to provide as much flexibility as possible to help you manage your studies. All our classes start at 09:30 to allow student parents to settle children at school or childcare before attending college.

Learning Support
Our Student Wellbeing and Support Team offers an inclusive support service to students who disclose a disability or additional support need. We always recommend that you disclose this information to us as early as possible, ideally in your original application form.
Support with Additional Needs
We support students with a range of disabilities and needs, including those with:
- A specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, ADHD or ADD
- A visual or hearing impairment
- Autism
- Mental ill-health
- A physical impairment
- Long-term illness
We can also help with applications for the Disabled Students Allowance.
