Access to Higher Education

SWAP - SCQF Level 6

This course is part of the Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP) and is designed for adults who are ready to return to education and pursue a university degree. It offers a supportive, structured and academically rich experience to help you develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in higher education. 

The programme is tailored for learners who have few or no formal qualifications, providing a clear and supported route into university.

Funding / Fees:
For eligible students, tuition fees are covered by the Scottish Funding Council (SFC)

Entry Requirements:
No formal entry requirement. Students should be able to read a novel and write full paragraphs. Students must have been out of formal education for at least three years.

22nd August 2025, or until the course is full

Who is the course for?

This course is for you if:

  • You have been out of full-time education for three years or more
  • You are ready to commit to a full-time course that prepares you for university
  • You are interested in studying subjects such as psychology, criminology, literature or politics
  • You are motivated to progress to higher education and want strong academic and personal support along the way

Some students who already hold SCQF Level 6 qualifications may also be eligible.

How will I Study?

This is a full-time course delivered over a single academic year (36 weeks). You will attend college for four days each week, with some additional independent study required. All students benefit from small class sizes, a supportive college team, and access to study support throughout the course.
