Forest and Outdoor Learning Awards levels 2-5
Forest and Outdoor Learning Awards at SCQF Levels 2 to 5 offer practical, hands-on outdoor learning experiences that help participants build confidence, skills and a deeper connection with nature.
These awards focus on experiential learning and can be delivered flexibly to suit different group needs and contexts. Programmes can take place either in the woodlands at Newbattle Abbey College or on your own chosen site.

Content includes:
- Developing a connection with nature and understanding natural environments
- Learning about responsible outdoor access and sustainable practice, following the Scottish Outdoor Access Code
- Identifying species and engaging in conservation activities
- Using tools safely, practising fire skills and ensuring woodland safety
- Participating in creative activities such as woodcraft, storytelling and artistic expression in nature
Who is it for?
The awards are designed to be inclusive and accessible. At Levels 2 to 4, there are no written requirements or tests, and assessments are flexible and tailored to each participant’s needs.
This ensures that learners can engage fully in ways that suit their own learning styles and abilities.
